The 23rd Annual Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, is organized by the International Centre for Research on the Environment and the Economy (ICRE8), in collaboration with Athens University of Economics and Business, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and ATHENA Research and Innovation Center.

 

ICRE8 - The International Centre for Research on the Environment and the Economy is a not-for-profit, private Research Centre dedicated to interdisciplinary research on the Environment, Energy, Economy, Eco-innovations and their electronic versions (hence E8). The overarching goal of the Centre is to promote the understanding and implementation of Sustainable Development, as the only non-self-destructive path of socio-economic development. Central to ICRE8’s mission is the pursuit of excellence in conducting and presenting research and a commitment to explore relevant environmental, natural resources and energy issues, for a variety of circumstances and stakeholders and across different temporal and spatial scales.

The Centre’s research expertise includes financial analysis, socio-economic and econometric analysis, mathematical modeling, environmental valuation, political and institutional analysis, integrated environmental-economic modeling, cost-benefit analysis, multi-criteria analysis, life cycle analysis, risk analysis, geographical information systems, multi-stakeholder mediations techniques, game theory, information technologies and decision making tools development.

ICRE8 co-hosts - together with the Political Economy of Sustainable Development Lab, Department of Economics, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens - the Greek chapter of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and will be organizing the Mediterranean UN SDSN annual conference in November 2016.

 

Collaborating Institutions

AUEB - Athens University of Economics and Business is the third oldest academic institution of Higher Education in Greece and the first in the fields of Economic Science and Business Administration, to which over time the scientific fields of Informatics and Statistics have been added. The University has a rich history of noteworthy scientific achievements. AUEB, a center of excellence in academic research and in teaching, is evaluated as one of the top Universities in the country and one of the best internationally in the academic fields in which it specializes. In environmental and resource economics, AUEB’s staff has produced significant research in the areas of environmental policy design and resource management, in environmental valuation, as well as in the relationship of environmental economics with agricultural economics, growth, international trade and macroeconomics.

 

UoA - The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, usually referred to simply as the University of Athens, has been in continuous operation since its establishment in 1837. It is the oldest institution of higher education institution, not only in modern Greece but also in both the Balkan peninsula and the Eastern Mediterranean region. Today it is the second biggest university in Greece in number of students (following the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), with more than 50,000 undergraduate students.

 

 

 

The Athena Research and Innovation Center in Information, Communication and Knowledge Technologies was founded in 2003. It is based in Athens, with its Institutes located in Athens, Patras and Xanthi. “Athena” is a Center of excellence in informatics and computational sciences. More than 10% of its scientific staff are working on applied research building digital tools and services for the environment, climate change, energy and sustainability.

Through national and international R&D projects, technological ecosystem development initiatives, innovative application activities and knowledge transfer to the social and economic environment, Athena RIC fulfills its mission to support the participation of Greece both in the “Europe 2020” strategy and in the global movement towards smart and sustainable growth for all.
