About Berlin

Many international conferences take place in Berlin, not only because of the large number of venues and cultural attractions, but also because the city has become a center of European research. TU Berlin is located in the center of the city, a part of the city that has been beautifully renovated since 1989 and is situated next to a large park. Due to its favorable location and its good accessibility by public transport, TU Berlin is particularly suitable for a conference of this size.

Berlin’s eventful history, rich cultural offer and open-minded spirit attracts 11.6 million business visitors every year. As a host of 176 meetings of international associations in 2016, the German capital is among the top five convention destinations worldwide and well prepared for congresses. The city not only provides efficient infrastructure and a wide range of accommodation, but also a remarkable choice of exceptional event locations to suit all needs.

Few other regions can boast such highly concentrated scientific and research activities as does Berlin. Around 200,000 people from around the world teach, conduct research, work, and study in Berlin. The city features four universities, Charité (University Medical Center Berlin), seven universities of applied sciences, three art academies, 18 private universities, as well as more than 60 research institutions. Important national research organizations such as the Fraunhofer Society, Helmholtz Association, Leibniz Association, and Max Planck Society maintain several institutes in Berlin, in addition to eight research facilities of federal ministries. In the area of higher education alone, Berlin invests around 1.5 billion euros each year.
